Well surprise surprise, I never kept up with my once a month blogging that I planned on doing. It was just sooo much easier posting on facebook . But I've decided to come back, let's see how I do in keeping up with posts. Here are a couple of my favorite items I've made since I've been away...

Well, I must admit it...I am over blogging(for now at least). It has slowly fallen further and further down in importance of my to-do list. I plan on keeping up with a monthly post of what I've been up too and any important updates because I'm really excited about the cool stuff on my to-do list for my home and for upcoming DofD products...but that's about it as far as blogging is concerned.

Cases Anyone?

I was shopping for felt the other day for a custom order and decided to grab a few extra sheets while I was there. I randomly decided to make these iPod/iPhone cases and I love them!

Then I made a iPad sleeve too...

These can all be customized in your favorite color or made in different sizes to fit your phone, Nook, or Kindle.
Then today I wanted to make some camera cases so I put a little twist on the normal cases I've made before by sewing a pattern on the linen. I love how they turned out...I think I might do this to my next clutches too!

Homemade Gifts

I know, I said I wasn't going to post about my Christmas gifts until after Christmas but I don't think these little recipients frequent my blog so it will be ok...
So, these are for a very cute teeny tiny one your old. Have you ever heard of BabyLegs? A company that makes baby leg warmers that I think are absolutely adorable so I decided to make my own!

And this is for a very imaginative two year old. I've seen so many variations of these types of things...so here is my version...

Hopefully this inspires you to get started on your own homemade gifts!

Holiday Update

Hello! It sure has been awhile. I have just been working away getting my presents made and custom orders done :)
I've been busy putting new items on etsy...still not much luck on there. Facebook continues to be my main source of customers which is just fine by me! Although I haven't gotten much attention on etsy I did manage to catch the attention of the creative editor of Simply Handmade Magazine. She sent me a product request asking that I submit some items for their summer issue. I feel like I'm jinxing it just talking about it but since there is no guarantee that I'll make it in the issue I might as well celebrate this now :)So woo hoo!
I thought I would share two new holiday crafts I did this year.
Advent Calendar
I was inspired by this amazing advent tree from Sunset magazine

I wish mine turned out that great...I decided to only use what I had on hand. I got out my trusty Cricut and cut out my tags and numbers. I decided to write a bible verse on the back of each tag that we could look up together as a family each night. Then I made little "ornaments" for my son to hang up in place of the tag we take down each night. The ornaments are simply asterisk's cut from felt. I wish I would have gotten a picture because they actually are pretty cute.
I had a vase and twigs leftover from these adorable decorations we made for my grandma's 90th birthday last month...

so I just hung the tags all over that...I looks a lot more crowded and messy then Sunset magazine's version..oh well my 4 year loves it just the same :)

I also made an upcycled wreath...the form is from a wreath I made previously, the yarn is leftover from a project, and the ruffles are made from old tshirts...

I may seem to be MIA for a little while. It's officially Christmas time and I need to get started on all my gifts (which I won't be blogging about until AFTER Christmas for obvious reasons). I already finished one and I'm really excited about it! I'm still working on uploading all my items to Etsy and I have a few more things I want to add that I haven't quite finished yet. I have five pages in my sketch book full of new items that I can't wait to make but probably won't be able to until after Christmas...so that's something to look forward too :) I pulled my beads out of the box yesterday to work on my jewelry a little bit...hopefully I have something in that area to share with you soon! Well, that's my little update for now. Hope everybody had an awesome Thanksgiving because I know I did!

First Boutique

I did my first boutique last Friday and I would say it was a success. I learned A LOT. Mostly about myself. I was so hard on myself for not getting everything done that I wanted but I was just being crazy...if I had done anymore it wouldn't have even fit on my table!
The boutique was a lot of fun. It was exciting to get instant face to face feedback about my items. It was great to meet other like-minded people and network and it was awesome to talk with more experienced vendors and get some advice.
I was not too happy with my displays..they were fine but not amazing. I was planning on doing that the day before but I was sick on the couch instead. Oh well..there is always next time.
Having never done any boutiques or craft fairs before, I did not know what to expect and I think it was a great day. I went into it thinking if I made my money back and got my name out there I was going to be happy but I ended up with way more sales then I expected and my stack of business cards were almost gone so I would call that a success.

Crazy for Pinwheels

In preparing for the Holiday Boutique I did last Friday I made a few more of those embroidery hoops that I shared with you awhile ago.
This one I did was my absolute favorite. I was actually a little sad when it sold.

There is just something about pinwheels that I love. So cute and simple...and you don't see a ton of them around these days. After staring at it for awhile I realized they would make cute hair clips too so I made some last minute and they turned out to be a hit so I made some more to sell on etsy.
Ok, I got a little carried away with how many I made because they really are fun...

Ugh. Tired and feeling frustrated. My days have not been as productive as planned. I had a busy week last week getting ready for my Grandma's 90th birthday party (which was a lot of fun) and had some family in town. Now, Jack has been sick since Saturday (like 104 degree fever, er visit, strep throat, wants to cuddle on mama all day sick) and I've been sick too. So needless to say Dreaming of Dandelions has been on the bottom of the list and I haven't gotten anywhere near what I planned on having done at this point. With the Holidays coming up I really planned on having a ton of things ready but that's life I guess. I'm trying my hardest to be happy about the things I do have done, rather then focusing on all the other things I also wanted to accomplish. I have to remind myself over and over that I always planned on doing this in what little spare time I have and to stop being so freaking hard on myself...one of these days, right.
Ok, now that my venting is done it's time to get some rest :)

My youngest niece turned one and her party was last weekend. I made her a cute little tutu for her party and then this little fleece beanie for the upcoming cold months...

Once I was done I realized how much it looked like Hello Kitty so let's just pretend that I meant to do that all along, ok?
I also made treat bags for my little Batman and his Batgirl...

So glad I have obscene amounts of felt on hand at all times because these were pretty last minute :)

The Hero Factory

Ok, so this is not craft related at all but it's coolest thing I've seen online in awhile...
If your child loves super heroes like mine and is old enough to enjoy some computer time this is perfect. This website allows you to design your own hero and choose their powers. Jack has been obsessed with this for the past two days so I thought I would share.

New Game Plan

Well, I've had a bit of project A.D.D. going on. I think it's time to clear my head and change my game plan. I am too easily sidetracked. I have like eight different things I'm working on plus thinking about taking all the pictures I need to for Etsy and then actually uploading everything...blah! When I have a lot of things going on I can't really seem to get much of anything done. I need to kick the A.D.D. and get more work done because I have not done nearly what I wanted to do to stock up for the Holidays. Also, with Anthony's crazy work schedule, I haven't had the free time like I thought I would. Instead of getting a few things done, then wanting to put them on etsy (and never getting around to it), and then starting another project, then another, then another I am going to focus on steps. Right now, I'm working on cutting EVERYTHING out that I need for ALL my projects. Then, I will get ALL of my sewing done. Then I will get ALL of the assembly of the other things done. I'm hoping this works for me :) I'm hoping this cuts down on the mess that I tend to spread around my whole house when I work too! I signed up to do a Holiday Boutique at Jackson's school next month so my goal is to have everything ready for that. THEN, the items I have leftover will be uploaded to Etsy. And then I can focus on Christmas presents for my family and friends :)
(Now, this doesn't mean things are not for sale just because I'm not putting them up on etsy yet...I will still post things as they are done and you can still contact me if you are interested.)
Oh and here are some of the shoe clips I was talking about earlier...still can't get the cream colored ones to upload.

Sick Boy=Gifts

My boy stayed home from school today with a cold. I always feel so bad for him when he doesn't feel good so I made him a little gift to cheer him up.

It worked :)

I think I've mentioned before that he is notebook obsessed so I've had this in the back of my head for awhile now. It's essentially just a cover for a composition notebook with handy pencil/marker holders. I was thinking they would make good gifts to go along with the kids bags I'm going to make (Yes, I'm still planning on make some...I just need to get to it haha) so this was a good trial run too.

Presents for a Little Lady

My oldest niece turned 10 yesterday. I knew she wanted hair clips so that is exactly what she got. I also made her a hair clip holder out of a 10 inch embroidery hoop..super easy and I think it turned out really cute.

I painted the hoop pink and used some scrap fabric. I used thumb tacks in the back to hold the ribbon in place.

I wish I had a picture of her wearing the clips...she is too cute.

I love giving homemade gifts. However, Jackson does not like it at all. He thinks that since I make the gift it is solely from me, not our family. I knew Hope wanted magnets for her locker at school so I knew that would be a perfect little gift from him. He really did most of the work, he even picked out the colors, I just helped to make sure things came out as neat as they could.

(The glue still wasn't completely dry in this picture so they did come out a lot clearer then this)
He was really proud of them and really excited to give them to her. He sure loves his cousins!

Boo

Well, I was hoping to come on here and say that I have added new items to Etsy. I finished some shoe clips and took the pictures. When I went to upload them they would not upload at all. So frustrating. I feel like there's always SOMETHING wrong with my technology these days. Oh well, I suppose I should just be thankful that my other 75+ pictures from the past week uploaded just fine. I will try again tomorrow. In the mean time just try to picture little chiffon flowers in grey, plum, and cream.
For now I can just share a little Halloween craft we did today. Jackson has been asking for the past few weeks to decorate for Halloween. My husband and I are not big Halloween lovers but for some reason we produced a little boy that just can't get enough. So I finally gave in today and made a small sign with him.

I was deciding between fabric and paper. I went with paper because Jackson wanted to help me and he wouldn't get to do much if the sewing machine was involved. He was in charge of the glue and the glitter and I'm shocked that there wasn't a huge mess after! I was planning on making a few more flags but Jack wanted to hang it on the door so we could only fit the three flags.
I think it turned out pretty cute and Jackson was really excited so that's awesome.

Just Another Little Update

Well, Mr. AT&T tech guy was a no-show yesterday so I'm using my parents computer once again. I brought a few pictures with me this time.
I dropped these two clutches off at Laurenly two weeks ago...

I have about 15 more cut and ready to go...just have to crack the whip on myself to get them done...
I've made some more fabric flowers. I just have to assemble them into clips, pins, or shoe clips.
I've made these adorable flower sash/belts...

I have a whole stack of things waiting for me to add them to Etsy...I know every week I say I'm going to do it...hopefully our internet is fixed and then I might actually get it done :)

The Good & the Bad

GREAT news - I got a shiny new camera for my birthday last week!
BAD news - Our internet has been down for a week (using my parents internet now) and it won't get fixed until Friday.

I am really excited about these! Obviously, you can tell from previous projects like these...

that I like dressing up my shoes. I love the idea of expanding the possibilities for your shoes, especially these days when the majority of people can't afford new shoes for every outfit. I used to be shoe obsessed but now I am shoe clip obsessed.

Is it really Friday already? With an out of town husband and a sick boy I have gotten NOTHING accomplished this week. Oh well that's life I guess. My sister in law has a booth at the Harvest Festival up in Northern California this weekend and she is selling some of my items...so far they are a hit. That's exciting news! My sister in law owns a hair salon in Northern California. I made her some hair accessories that she could sell in the salon...
I made more headbands with felt flowers and fabric flowers but I've already posted pictures of those before so I won't bore you again :)

Welp, I took most of my clutches off of etsy. They are now available at Laurenly Clothing Boutique in Old Town Orange...so exciting! I have eight clutches there including this pretty little clutch...

As for etsy, I am still going to do it especially for the my Home Goods and Children's things. However, I must admit, I'm not as excited about Etsy as I used to be. It is an amazing website it is just taking up too much of my time. Being a stay at home mom, I only sew in my free time. It takes up all my free time just to get my stuff made and then to have to take the photos, upload them, write descriptions, etc. And then the website is sooo busy that 5 minutes later your items are already a few pages back. Sooo like I said I am still going to do it, it is just not going to be my main focus. I think I will commit to putting 1 or 2 items on etsy a week.
It is encouraging to have an awesome opportunity like Laurenly to come along because putting my items in a boutique is such an great option. I would like to find more craft fairs, and maybe another little boutique. Well, just thought I would update those who care and were wondering why my clutches disappeared off etsy.

Back to School Crafts

So, I'm totally one of those moms that decorates for every occasion and milestone my son goes through. Today was his first day of Pre-K so of course we had First Day of School decorations. Here is what he woke up to...nothing too groundbreaking but they came out cute so I thought I would share.

I love all those adorable fabric flag banners that you see around these days. I didn't have fabric in the colors I wanted so I used paper instead. I used eyelets to reinforce the holes and only used tape to attach the letters so that I could easily remove them to use the flags again ( Happy Birthday, Father's Day, etc).

I know it seems too soon to think about winter wear. However, winter is fast approaching and we need to be prepared people!!! Ok, maybe not but I absolutely love scarves and I'm sure I'm not alone in that. I love to knit but I wanted some other cute scarves that I could make quicker. I came up with a few cute styles for some fabric scarves. Here is a sneak peak of one...

I decided to make a felt robot for a first birthday party this weekend.
I made Jackson one and it has been well loved and well played with for sure.

I decided to shrink down the size and embellish it a little more and it seriously came out so stinking cute.

Well I'm getting closer and closer to putting things up for sale. It's a slow process...especially with 1. It being Summer and I want to enjoy being out and about. 2. Anthony and Jackson are home. Don't get me wrong...they are the two best distractions in the world. I'm just hoping that once Jack starts school again and Anthony goes back to work I will be able to get more accomplished :) So I still plan on putting things up for sale very soon...I just won't have as many things available as I had hoped. Oh well.

I made a new clutch pattern last night and made one of them this morning...super cute.

A few days ago I made a large hobo style bag...I'll be making a few more soon to put up for sale.

One Step Closer

Well I have finished a few more clutches. These sure are time consuming little suckers. So, I am almost done with my ruffle clutches...one step closer to etsy!

I think this one is my absolute favorite. Probably no shock to those that know me and my obsession with blue & green.

I still have a few more ruffle clutches to finish.

I'm excited to see the finished product of the purple and green one.
Last night I took a break from the ruffle clutches to work on a new clutch. Let me know what you think.

Gotta Love Some Organization

My son LOVES to draw. When he grows up he says he wants to be an Illustrator and an Animator. Impressive for a 4 year old right? We have art supplies all over the place and I wanted to give him his own art station next to his little table.
This is what I came up with...
I started with a larger scrap piece that I had...

Then I figured out the sizes I needed and cut. Then I made stencils and used fabric paint to label the pockets...

Then I did all my sewing. If you can see in the pictures to finish the edges off I just used a zig zag stitch...I was going for a little funky look.

So hanging this bad boy was a little bit of trial and error...mostly error. I wanted to use what I had, which was sticky velcro. It worked great for five minutes then it unstuck from the fabric...duh. So I just thought, oh ok I'll sew it on then. BIG mistake. Sticky things and sewing needles are not compatible. I should have known better. Actually, I did know better I just did it anyway. I don't recommend this method but if you do I found that if you run a piece of paper through the machine every now and then it helps to de-stickify the needle.
Anyways, now the art supplies have a handy place to go and my son was really excited about the finished piece which means mission accomplished.
After looking at these pictures I can tell it needs a good ironing...it doesn't look that wrinkled in person...I promise :)

Well, I haven't gotten as much done as I had hoped. I have been spending a lot of my time helping my husband with his resume, cover letters, and applications. Hey I need to put my work in too if I want to continue the good life as a stay at home mom, right? I did finish all my cutting and finished one clutch. I have been enjoying spending quality time with my little family but today I decided it's time to get to work...now for the only part of the sewing process that I HATE...cutting. Ugh...

This will be 15 clutches. With the fabric, lining, interfacing, pocket, and ruffles that's 11 pieces per clutch. Not fun...

...For once again inspiring me. I have made these types of felt flowers before but I had never thought of doing this with them...

So 15 minutes and 50 cents of felt later I had my version...

I haven't attached the flowers to the shoes yet because I'm not completely sold on the color. I just worked with what I had. So we'll see what I decide to do.
This is a no-sew project that anyone with felt, hot glue, and scissors can do...really easy.

I also have two more shirts I refashioned and two more that I want to do...hopefully I will have them up here tonight. After that I have to STOP....I get hung up on projects if you haven't noticed. Although doing these tees are money SAVING I need to focus on money MAKING projects :)

Whats Old is New Again

This afternoon I had a little spare time to myself. I had a sick boy resting, a husband off playing baseball, and a garbage bag full of clothes going to the garage sale stack. I managed to make two cute new shirts out of a few things I was getting rid of...
Of course, like always, I didn't take pictures of every step. This started out as a persimmon colored, long sleeved tee with a high neckline. I cut off the sleeves and made it into a scoop neck tank. I'm a fan of the messy, distressed look so I decided to do a hap hazard box pleat around the neck. I didn't want it looking neat so I left the raw edges and didn't measure the pleats at all. The fabric I used for the pleats is the lining from an old skirt. I really like how it came out and I love the price tag...$0.

I didn't do anything to alter the shape of this tank. The patterned fabric is actually the ties from an old shirt I had that I just cut off. I layed them out and scrunched them up kinda crazy and uneven and then sewed them on. Really, really easy. I love how this one came out too. I can't wait to wear it!

Another Quick Refashion

I have had the shopping bug lately. So, instead of buying something new I refashioned one of my old tank tops into a pretty cool top. Now that I think about it I don't think this is technically a refashion because I'm not altering the tank at all...just embellishing. Whatever it is I like it...

I didn't take a picture of the whole tank because it's really wrinkled and I don't want to get the iron out. :)

It's Clutch Time

Ok, it's official...I have no self control. I tried to stay away from sewing for a week and it didn't work. Oh well, I wanted to work on a clutch and I like how this one came out...

I think it's a good size...approximately 7.5x11...big enough to actually fit stuff but not too big.
There are a few things I want to change with the ones I make to sell. I would like to add a magnetic closure to make it more secure. Another thing I need to work on is my pictures. The color of the fabrics are completely off. It looks almost neon and really its kind of faded and distressed looking. I don't know if its me, my computer screen, my camera, or the lighting. Probably a combination but I need to figure it out because when I'm ready to sell I want to be able to accurately represent the product. So any tips or ideas would be appreciated. I tried some outside and they came out even worse...I'm thinking I need to do them outside in the morning or late afternoon. This is what I get for skipping out on photo so much in high school.

Planning...designing...can't wait to CREATE. I want to sew but I've vowed to myself a week of no sewing. My house is so tiny that when I craft it literally gets in every room in the house...I just can't help it. Anthony is coming home in exactly one week and I don't want to be in a mad rush to clean up my mess before he comes home. So I'm sustaining my craftoholic ways with small, less messy projects like the headbands. I'm also driving myself crazy with tons of ideas...I want to make it ALL and I need to remind myself that 1. I am only one person and 2. Supplies cost money. Booo.

I bought them a few years ago because I loved the color (am I the only weirdo that buys stuff just because I love the color or the pattern?). I had never worn them before because I was not a huge fan of the bead baubles so I turned them into this...

Cute, right? Too bad after taking Jackson for a walk in them my heels are now raw :(

A Small Miracle

For once complaining paid off. I was messing with my sewing machine today and decided to take some pieces apart ...keep in mind I really have no clue what I'm doing. I put it back together and low and behold I can zig-zag stitch. I have no idea what I did but I must have done something right! I know most people will think I'm crazy for even blogging about this but I am so excited!
I had my stamps out so I decided to mess around with some stationary...

Another bad picture I know...it really does look a whole lot better in person. It's just so easy to snap a picture with my phone and email it to myself!
I stamped the background and then stamped the phrases on pieces of scrap paper and then sewed them on...simple and adorable...well at least I think so.

Anyways, I really like making stationary so I think I'm going to add stationary sets to my Etsy shop...you know...the shop I keep talking about but haven't actually made anything for yet :) Soon very soon...

Ok, I admit it, I have been a terrible blogger lately. I haven't had much to share. My husband is coming home in THIRTEEN DAYS so I have been doing projects around the house that I have been putting off. However, I do have some teachers gifts to share. I was Room Mom this year and when it came to the end of the year class gift I had NO CLUE what to do for his teachers. I wanted to do something cute and personal from the kids but rounding up 25 three and four year olds to do something for each teacher was too daunting a task for me. SO I settled on making them tote bags and Target gift cards :)
They were so excited about them, which made me very happy! They said I need to start my own business...I told them I was working on it :)

And they LOVED their cards...maybe it was just the gift card :) No, but seriously one of his teachers said she has kept every card I've made for her which is very nice.

And these are Jackson's gifts to his teachers...I know it's a bad picture. He painted their pots lime because he was in the lime group and then we planted daisys. One of his teachers favorite color is yellow and the others is purple...can you tell we ran with that?

Ok, that's it for now. Hopefully I will have more to blog about soon. I have everything I need to get a good start on my Etsy shop...now I just need to find the time :)

Well it seems like I haven't posted in awhile. I've been busy making a few presents, planning my Etsy shop, and some custom orders. Woo hoo all great things!
So I've been narrowing down items that I really want to put in my Etsy shop. I had no idea how hard this would be because I want to include so many things...I may just end up with the most random shop ever. And I think I would be ok with that!
Last night I made a quick bag. I modified an idea from a Lotta Jansdotter book I have. I added an inside lining, made it a flat bottom, and of course added the flowers.

Should this be added to the Etsy shop? I was thinking maybe two sizes...this size and then a larger tote size. Yes, no, maybe?

I'm Taking the Leap

This has been a long time coming but I'm FINALLY going to open up an Etsy shop. I have been toying with the idea for years and I always said oh yeah I'll do it eventually so I figured this was as good a time as any to actually do it. I decided against doing children's clothing for right now...it will give me something to work towards. I just don't have the time or space for what I would need to keep up with that. But I have a good long list of things that I will carry...what would you like to see on there? I'll keep you posted on my progress. Wish me luck!

Little Girlie Dresses

I made these little dresses for my nieces 2nd Birthday.
This was the first one I made. I used a Lotta Jansdotter simple dress and bloomers pattern.

Then I made this one and I absolutely love it. I want a version of it for myself. The dress is linen and the ruffles and bloomers are made from cloth napkins that I had but never used.

I made this pattern myself. I've seen this style before for little girls and I love that it can be used as a dress now and as she grows it can be worn as a top with leggings or shorts. I made it out of a top that I had that I've never worn before.

I can't wait to see her in them!

A few weeks ago when I made the flower pillow I made an extra flower. I ended up using it in my hair and I've made a few more since then.

I made these today and they are my favorite! I made the back so that they could be more versatile and used with a hair clip or a pin. I plan on making more soon!

Earth Day

Today is Earth Day. I have one "green" tip for you today. I love to repurpose and re-use things. Lately, I've been all about re-using fabric. In a few days I will post some little dresses I've made. One was created from some cloth napkins I had and another one was made from a shirt that I had but have never worn. Next time you clean out your closet see what you can re-use. You can even go to a thrift store and find something in a pattern or color you are drawn to. Just a little something to think about.

I'm going to hold off on posting some of my recent things that I've made because they are all presents for other people and I don't want to spoil it. Instead, I am just going to say thank you. I have gotten so many emails, messages, and what not from people supporting me and really liking what I do...and even from a few people I don't even know! I'm blown away by the amount of people that have gravitated to my little blog to check out my hobby. It's awesome. I tend to pick apart the things that I do so it's nice to get other perspectives on it...especially positive ones:)I am excited to get more projects started...I haven't even accomplished a third of what I've been wanting to do (that's life right?) I have lots of clothing ideas roaming around in my head right now. I have even had multiple people ask if I have considered doing special orders for things...bring it on! It's exciting for me because I feel like I'm just barely getting back into the swing of things so if you guys like me now just wait :) haha just kidding. I'm excited to continue learning...there are a few new things for me that I can't wait to try. So, once again thank you for your kind words. Don't be afraid to comment on here. And I guess what it all boils down to is that it feels good to be liked...hey, I'm just being honest!

Ninja Turtle Birthday

Ok, so I did some few crafts for my sons birthday. Just a few and nothing too complicated.
Man Hole Covers:

This is just cardstock. I cut out the rectangles and used my cricut to cut out the letters. Since it's the sewer I rubbed some ink pads on them to make them look dirty.
Ooze:
Not sure how you can have a Ninja Turtle party without ooze :) I was surprised by how many ooze/slim recipes are out there. I used this recipe because it looked like the ooze from the movie:

It was really easy to make! I have left over glue so I think making more would be a good rainy day craft for sure!

Pinata:
I never thought I would attempt to make a pinata but there is just something that happens to a mom when their child asks them ever so sweetly to do something. :) It wasn't hard to do it just took up way to much time. The process was not pretty either...I ended up using cardboard taped together to make the pizza shape, then paper mache, and then the tissue paper for the decoration. It cost me next to nothing too because I already had most of the items. However, I would rather pay the full amount for one at the party store next time!

I was worried it wasn't sturdy enough and it turned out that the pinata was pretty indestructible!

Rice Crispy Treats:
Instead of cake Jack wanted rice crispy treats. Well, to be exact he wanted them green, on a stick, and decorated like the ninja turtles faces. He got 2 out of the 3 requests. You can go that extra mile if you want but there was no way I was even going to attempt that.

That's it. Like I said, just a few simple things.
When I searched for Ninja Turtle party ideas I was less then impressed by what I found so maybe this can help someone out!

Birthday Boy

It's my little man's birthday week and I have been consumed with birthday stuff. More specifically his pinata...more on that in another post.
Here is a pic of his birthday shirt...I've never made him a shirt just for his birthday before but with his daddy being gone on his birthday I wanted to do everything I could to make it extra special.

I just made a stencil and used fabric paint..nothing fancy. I considered doing an applique and all that but then I came back to reality...why do all that work for one day? He is happy with it and is excited to wear it and that's all that matters right?

Notebooks

For Jackson's teacher's:
I like to give them a little something for every holiday to show our appreciation. We were late on our Easter gifts so Jackson gave them their notebooks today and they LOVED them.

For myself:
You can never have enough notebooks :)

Like every other parent I try to write down all the hilarious/clever things my son says. I'm going to transfer everything into here because I think it happens to be pretty darn cute. (Oh and yes I admit it, I got the "journal of unforgettable quotes" quote from Paper Source's My Quotable Kid notebook.)

Flower Pillow

I made a totally adorable pillow today...

However, my crappy camera can't seem to take decent pictures these days and my house has terrible lighting so this is all I have for now.
As you can see it has a white front and teal back. There are six mustard colored flowers with teal beads in the center.
I am going to make a matching pillow and use them on my bed with the ruffle pillows I made.
I'll try again with the pictures tomorrow. Maybe I can get some better ones outside in the sun. Wish me luck.

Magnets

I seem to never have enough magnets. Not sure why that is...but I changed my dire magnet situation yesterday. :)
So if you are craving a magnet surplus here is the how to info...
(I must add this is not my original idea, I have seen this done somewhere but I can't remember where)
You will need:
-flat glass marbles
-magnets
-paper
-pencil/pen
-scissors
-glue that dries clear (I used Tacky Glue)
I took pictures with my phone but once I got them on the computer most of them didn't turn out well. But you really shouldn't need pictures...it's pretty self explanatory,
Step 1- Lay out the marbles where you want them on the paper.
Step 2- Trace around the marble. Remember to not mix them up since all the marbles are different shapes. I did this to make it easier...

Step 3- Cut out the circles
Step 4- Glue the paper to the marble. Press hard to spread the glue evenly.
Step 5- Glue the magnet to the back of the marble.
Now your done. Can't get easier then that right?

Jammies

So, Jackson's grown out of most of his winter pajamas so instead of spending the money on new ones I decided to make him a few pairs of pants and just buy him a pack of white tees. I bought the fabric a week or two ago on sale at Joanns for $2/yd (It might have been $2.50 I don't remember exactly). I only needed 1 yard for each of the pants so around $6 is not too shabby. I let him pick 3 prints...he settled on fire trucks, dinosaurs, and Buzz Lightyear...

Giving his big boy jammies a thumbs up...

I Spy

Like any other parent I spend most of my days thinking up things to keep my son entertained. He loves I Spy and Where's Waldo books. I have passed those I Spy games at Target and have been tempted to buy them more then once. I remembered seeing this I Spy type game in a bottle done in various parenting magazines and websites so I thought I would give it a try today...
This DIY game was an A+ for me because he was also able to help me every step of the way which he's really into at this age.
We used rice (approx 4 cups)and divided it into baggies. Then I let him choose 4 colors of food coloring and we dyed the rice. We let it set for about 30 minutes and then put it on plates to make sure it was dry....

I put all the rice in a large bowl and let him mix...

We searched the house for small items to put inside the bottle...

We put all of our items in the bottle and then used a funnel to fill the bottle up with our rice and here is our finished product...

So far it has been a hit!

In an Attempt to Avoid Cleaning

Jackson loves notebooks. He prefers to draw in a notebook vs. just a normal piece of paper. I think he gets that from me...I'm totally that person that has like 20 notebooks stashed around the house filled with various lists and other ramblings.
Anyways, in an attempt to avoid cleaning I just made him this...

I've always wanted to try and make my own notebook but I thought it would be too complicated. I found instructions here
It was really simple and did not take much time at all. And of course I love that you can just use things you already have around the house. I used normal printer paper folded in half and two pieces of cardstock glued together for the cover.
I think it turned out adorable! I like how versatile this can be and would make a great homemade gift!

Insomnia at its Finest

I haven't slept well the past few days, okay make that weeks. Anyways, it has made for some more sewing time. In the past two days I've made Jack three pairs of pajama pants and a cute little dress and bloomers for a certain adorable little girl's upcoming birthday. I've also started my other bedroom pillows. Pictures of everything coming soon. For now I am off to assemble a new dresser for the little man.

They are step 2 in my bedroom makeover. Aren't they adorable? Girly ruffles in a color my husband approves of. Sounds like the perfect compromise to me. Plus, the total cost was around $10.

Where I Craft

Little Man Bag

Jackson has been asking me to make him a book bag for the library for about a month now. Yesterday was an especially frustrating day so I thought a good sewing session was just what I needed. I worked on it for a little over 2 hours last night and when my boy woke up he finally had his bag. But now instead of a book bag he is calling it his light saber holder. Of course, I should have known.

It look me about an hour to figure out the measurements I wanted and to do the cutting and then a little over an hour to sew it. I planned to take pictures along the way but of course I forgot. I was in the zone :) So I will just write out what I did and hopefully it can be understood.
I chose a linen fabric for the outer because I like the texture and the softness. The inside is just a printed cotton. I got a yard of each and I have a little left over. You can add interfacing to make the bag more structured or even use a thicker fabric like a canvas or duck cloth but I decided not to because I wanted to keep it as light as possible and I like the relaxed look of it.
You can change the dimensions to anything that fits your needs.
The finished dimensions that I wanted was H-10in x W-12in x D-3in
The strap is 26in x 3in
Small enough for him to carry it but big enough for me to throw it over my shoulder too if needed.
When I cut the pieces out I added one inch to everything so I could have .5in seam allowance on both sides.
The bag is fully lined with a coordinating fabric so here are the pieces I cut...
1. Outer Body 11x13 Cut 2
Outer Sides 11x3 Cut 2
Outer Bottom 13x3 Cut 1
Outer Flap 8x13 Cut 1
Outer Strap 27x4 Cut 1

Lining Body 11x13 Cut 2
Lining Sides 11x3 Cut 2
Lining Bottom 13x3 Cut 1
Lining Flap 8x13 Cut 1
Lining Strap 27x4 Cut 1

2. With the right sides together sew the outer body pieces to the side pieces. Do the same with the lining body pieces and sides.

3. Again, with right sides together sew the bottom pieces onto both the outer and lining.

4. Flap - With the right sides facing each other sew together the outer and lining flap pieces leaving the top open.

5. Turn right side out. Press. And then edge stitch around (optional but recommended) to give it a more finished look.

6. Strap - With right sides together sew around leaving end open.

7. Turn right side out. Press. And then edge stitch around (optional but recommended)

8. Now it's time to sew everything together. Keep the outer bag turned inside out. Position the flap on the side you want it with the outer material facing the outer bag. Pin in place. Do the same with the strap. Now turn the lining right side out and place inside of bag. The flap and straps should be sandwiched between the outer bag and the lining. Sew around the top leaving 3-4 inches open. Pull bag right side out through the opening. Press top and then you can either edge stitch (optional but recommended) all around making sure to close the opening in the top or you can simply do a hidden stitch to close the opening.

You are finished! You can add some type of closure if you want. I didn't because I wanted it to be as simple as possible.

A little brown beanie...modeled so eloquently by this crazy kid...

And a scarf for myself. I love scarves and was so excited to learn how to knit and of course out of about ten scarves I have only made one for myself...isn't that how it typically goes?

I am working on my first blanket and at the pace I'm going it will be ready NEXT winter.

Next week is my little brothers birthday. My parents are buying him a digital camera so I thought it would be cool to make him a camera case. This is what I came up with...

I think it fits him well.
I made the case from linen that I found in the remnant section (score!). There is also two layers of flannel on the inside for a little padding. I added a pocket and finished it off with a recycled wood button. Well, actually it's a faux button...I opted for a velcro closure. I am planning on making one for myself sometime soon so maybe then I will document step by step and post a tutorial.
Since his birthday isn't until next week I won't be able to tell him about my new blog until AFTER because I wouldn't want him to see this and ruin the whole camera surprise!

I am on a mission to give our bedroom a little face lift. I refuse to spend a lot of money on this so in step with my "Hey I can do that" attitude I decided to make everything myself. Step one was to make some artwork for our walls. I came up with these in one night. Total project time was two days with drying time. The best part is I made these with things I already had laying around in the garage!

Now, I am in no way claiming to be a painter. I know this is far from being technically good. In fact only the background is actually paint the rest is paper.
Anyways, like I said I painted the background with colors that I mixed from paint I already had. For the mustard yellow I actually used 2 different colors to give it a little more interest. The rest is paper that I just simply cut out and glued. To finish it off I gave it a few coats of satin varnish.
I must add that the colors really aren't that bright in person. The yellow is a little more mustardy and the blue is more teal and less turquoise.
In the end I LOVE how they turned out. I can't wait to see them hung on the walls.
Next step in my mission...pillows. Maybe next week...

Back in the Saddle

So last week I made my first sewing project in way too long. I made a few grocery totes that I have had in the back of my mind for awhile. They were super simple..no pattern needed so if you want the how too info just let me know!

Here are two of the totes after a trip to Fresh & Easy this morning. I didn't add a picture of the third because my cat thought I had made that one for him and he ripped a hole in it last night and I found him sleeping in it this morning! Just my luck. But they are so roomy that I only needed two for a week of groceries for Jack and I (minus milk and juice jugs). I must brag that I got tons of complements on them in just one shopping trip! I will have to whip up a few more for the larger grocery trips when Anthony comes home :)

I have always been a creative person. I sort of fell off the craft band wagon and life took over after I had Jackson. When Anthony left for Japan I really started to crave that creative outlet again. I taught myself how to knit and it has really given me a little bit of sanity back after a non-stop day with my little man. Recently, I dusted off my sewing machine. Now I have a crafting to-do list a mile long and I thought it would be fun to blog about my crafting adventures. So this is the place I will come to document my various attempts at both crafting and sanity.
As long as I can remember it has been my dream to have my own line of children's clothing and some day own my own store. Maybe this will inspire me to get my butt in gear and make it happen!
